I have seen a huge advance in the quality of many guitars from various parts of Asia. it may involve a culling but the right people can be had eventually And this can also be had anywhere as well. I am sure it benefits to have a Workforce that genuinely cares about its quality of work. amazing instruments can be manufactured anywhere. Let's face it we live in an age of CNC machines and the "where" has been rendered virtually irrelevant. and I'll be the first to tell you that Korea and Indonesia have earned their bones. will most often take the right Yamaha Studio Lord or Washburn Falcon/Eagle or even the right Aria PE R80 over a vast sea of Les Pauls. Then again the only Gretsch's I own were built in Brooklyn.Īs time goes on, the more impressed I become with the "imports" I must say.Ĭlick to expand.I am a huge mij fan.

Pearless/World Git MIK Gretsch's that someone completely rebuilds still aren't as high a quality as the MIJ Pro Line Gretsch's, but can they get the job done? I'm sure they can, just not for me. My comments weren't to bash, just what I've observed and experienced. Would the results have been the same with a higher end MIK/MII/MIJ? Probably if not close. Just like a well assembled MIK, anyone "could have lived with" my Les Paul as it was but it went from ok/medicore to stellar with this work.
And heck, my US made Les Paul had to have a lot of the same stuff done that I wrote up about foreign built guitars, all electronics, hardware, refret, etc. It's been years since I've been guitar shopping in a foreign country.
The MIK, MII, MIJ guitars I see may not be what the rest of the world sees. Click to expand. In what way? Admittedly, my comments over two years ago are coming for a "US Centric" point of view.
